Facts about the city and the University

The department of electronic systems engineering has been fostering an internationalization process, aligned with the USP general policy, where undergraduate and graduate students from several countries come to study at a top university and enjoy the Brazilian experience. More and more students from North America, Europe, South America, Africa come to study in Brazil.

With the economy boom, the state and federal government have been investing heavily in research and development across several areas, particularly in engineering. Several of the top world companies lie nearby and actively interact with the engineering departments.

Nightlife and cultural options are probably among the best in the world. With excellent restaurants, hundreds of bars, night clubs, dance places, movie theaters, the cosmopolitan Sao Paulo is very appealing. Public transportation is efficient and the city has two airports, one for domestic flights and a big hub for international and national flights.

Nature is also generous if you do not mind driving or traveling a bit. Mountains are 50 km away, with trekking, rappel and rafting options. There are lakes close to the metropolitan area (15 km away), where you can learn windsurfing and kite surf. The ocean is only 90 km away, sprinkled with cliffs, rocks and rain forest, clear and warm waters, with nice bays and surf beaches all along the coast. You can have surf classes at U$ 10 an hour.

Right in the heart of the city lies the Ibirapuera Park. With over 1600 km2, it is a spark of tranquility within the pulsing city. People and families come to jog, walk and picnicking

The University of Sao Paulo is a top research and teaching university, ranked among the world's top 100 institutions. It is the best university in Brazil and in Latin America. With highly qualified faculty and top students, life on campus is an enriching experience.

Totally free, USP is a public government-funded university with a budget of over U$ 1 billion/year. Formally enrolled students may take advantage of:

- Free healthcare on campus
- Subsided meals on campus
- On campus housing
- Scholarships are available for top students; usually it is enough to cover lliving costs
